Alex Reynolds

Alex Reynolds (Bilbao, 1978) is an artist and filmmaker living in Brussels and Berlin. Before making her first short fiction !lm, Reynolds developed a consistent trajectory as an artist whose constant obsession has been the exploration and testing of structures of filmmaking. Trough sound works, performances, text and publications she has delved into storytelling patterns, scripting and rhythm as a sort of fragmentary but thorough approach to cinematic codes. Focusing on the language of fiction in particular her work explores power relations, the difference between spectator and witness, and the invasive and expansive potential of point of view, emotion, and empathy.

During the workshop the artist spoke about her work and influences, which included a ventriloquist-like performance by Nina Simone, the films of Joaquim Jordá, and Nicholas Ray’s diaries.
